is torture torture?

This is disgraceful. Note also that Romney lauds the advice he's received from the Vice Chairman of Blackwater. For future questioners, the correct way to ask this question is:

Would tearing out a detainee's fingernails or gouging out their eyes be torture? How about the rack?

Either the candidates continue to refuse to describe any barbaric practice whatsoever as torture, or they're forced to implicitly admit it's a non-sequitur to claim that not wanting to disclose interrogation techniques means that no techniques whatsoever can be proscribed

At that point perhaps we can begin a public discussion of the fact that we torture prisoners of war in violation of the Geneva Conventions and US law, and ask, if our conduct is so just, why we use the techniques and terminology of the Nazis

thank you Michael Mukasey

Wow, someone is making finally making some motherfucking sense. Here's the proposed replacement for Abu Gonzales, comparing the torture we've conducted to the Holocaust:

It should be entertaining to watch the flying-monkey right's reaction to this

(OTOH: a reasonable concern)
